Membership in the Association of Online Appraisers is open to individuals as well as to organizations. The cost is $60 per year. One may join the AOA as either a Candidate Member (one with less than two years experience), Regular Member (one with two years experience and who does appraisals), or as a Sponsoring Member (one who supports the AOA precepts but does not do appraisals.)
Candidate Members may only be individuals — not organizations. Candidate Members are beginners who do not yet have two years of appraisal experience (or market-related experience) within their anticipated area of specialization. There are no prerequisites to becoming a Candidate Member other than providing three personal references and to pay dues. Candidate Members may apply for Regular Member status once they have satisfied the requirement for two years of appraisal or market-related experience. Candidate Members may make use of AOA association logos which must be linked to https://www.aoaonline.org if used on the Internet. Candidate Members are not entitled to use the AOA membership logos nor are they entitled to use any AOA-related designation acronym after their name.
Regular Members may make use of both the AOA association logos (which must be linked to https://www.aoaonline.org if used on the Internet) as well as the AOA membership logos. Regular Members who have earned the Accredited Member designation are entitled to use the designation acronym AOA AM after their name. If the Certified Member designation has been earned, the Regular Members is entitled to use the AOA CM after their name.
Sponsoring Members may be either individuals or organizations. Sponsoring Members support the Appraisal Report Writing Standards of the AOA as well as the AOA's Code of Ethics. There are no prerequisites for those joining as a Sponsoring Members other than paying dues.
